MARGAO: At its gram sabha conducted on Sunday, the Village Panchayat of Raia unanimously resolved to demand equal status for the Roman script in the Official Language Act. Additionally, the panchayat resolved to install a statue of Jack Sequeira, the father of the opinion poll, in Raia.
Gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Peter Quadros also resolved to request the government to revoke the transfer order of panchayat staff Dipa Borkar, besides villagers opposed Sunburn EDM in South Goa.
At the meeting, Rosario Fernandes, a villager moved a resolution demanding equal status to the roman script and installation of Dr. Jack Sequeira’s statue, beside another proposal was also moved on behalf of Global Konknni Forum, on roman script.
“Dr. Jack Sequeira is known as a father of opinion poll, wherein he led the Goans in fighting in protecting the identity of Goa. We have requested the panchayat to initiate the process of installing his status at Arlem”, said Fernandes. Garbage issue was also discussed at the gram sabha wherein it was decided to fix a fee of Rs. 150 per year towards the collection of dry waste, besides the issue of taxes was also discussed.
Villagers demanded action against tobacco products near educational institutions and awareness programs.
Several other issues were also discussed at the gram sabha.
