Raia sarpanch,deputy ousted

Raia Sarpanch Nazareth Gomes and his deputy Rumaldo Gonsalves were on Monday ousted from office in a no confidence motion.
The Salcete Block Development Office has asked the Director of Panchayat to fill up the vaccum created by the ouster of the sarpanch and deputy. The Director of Panchayats is likely to appoint an administrator to run the Panchayat affairs till the vacancy is filled up.
At the special meeting held on Monday, the motion against the sarpanch and his deputy were carried by 6-5 votes.
The meeting was presided by Panch member, Pedro Antonio Pinheiro, who cast his casting vote in favour of the motion.
The no trust motion was proposed by Savio Gomes and seconded by Jessica Fernandes.
The six signatories Antonio Savio Gomes, Pedro Antonio Pinheiro, Jossica Fernandes, Conceicao A Ferrao, Menino Fernandes and Zelia Fernandes e Gonsalves had accused the Sarpanch and deputy for being incapable of performing their duties and for not taking the members into confidence on the development front.
The allegations were refuted by the deputy Sarpanch Rumaldo Gomes, by saying that the Panchayat had proposed some works, but could not go ahead for want of NOC.
Buoyed by the success in dislodging the Sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch, the opposition group is toying with the idea of proposing the candidature of Savio Gomes for the hot seat.
The group is keeping its cards close to its chest, with members saying that they will meet to decide on the question of leadership.
