MARGAO: Power consumers of Raia village are irked over the irregular distribution of electricity bills and alleged that the Electricity Department is harassing the consumers, who are already facing tough times in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to the Herald few consumers demanded bills on monthly basis.
According to Nixon Dias, they are being billed exorbitantly due to the non-issue of electricity bills on monthly basis.
“For some time now, we are billed for 43 days, which adds to exorbitant bills due to consumption of higher chargeable units,” he stated.
He also said that if the Electricity Department was to bill them on monthly basis, they would have been paying less.
“We are charged higher rates depending upon the actual units consumed. Rs 2600 for 43 days is too much at the time all are facing hardships due to the curfew and no work to earn”, said a local Lawrenco Colaco.
He said the Electricity Department officials defend saying they do not have the personnel to take the meter reading. “If this is the case, then why not take Goans on the payroll to get the job done? There are many Goans who are willing to accept such jobs”, he stated.
