Raia villagers slam Salgaocar Institute for comments

MARGAO: Raia villagers have objected to the comments of V M Salgaocar Institute of Hotel Management against the farmers fighting the college’s “misdeeds”.
Earlier, around 15 to 20 small-time farmers had complained that the sewage from the college had entered their fields. In its rebuttal, the college administration had called their allegations “baseless, frivolous and with premeditated intent to trouble the college’s operations”.
Locals, farmers and college authorities were called to the Maina-Curtorim police station to discuss the issue with the police inspector. While many villagers showed up, there were no representatives of the college, which instead sent a letter terming their allegations as baseless.
The villagers and farmers have also called the Raia panchayat the most corrupt and claimed it was unwilling to act against illegalities. A local Franky Cardozo stated, “The compound wall of Salgaocar College has already been deemed illegal by the authorities. But the panchayat has not bothered to even inspect the site.”
The villagers claimed that they have written several letters to the panchayat informing about illegal constructions and other issues in the village, but the panchayat was “dead silent on all issues”, which made it the shadiest panchayat in Goa.
