Railway personnel restore track after landslips near Dudhsagar

VASCO: Railway personnel restored the track for traffic following landslips reported in the Ghat section of Hubballi Division of South Western Railway near Dudhsagar.

It may be recalled that landslips occurred at two places, between Caranzol and Dudhsagar (at Tunnel No. 7) and Dudhsagar-Sonaulim.

According to SWR, the derailed engine at Dudhsagar-Sonaulim Section was re-railed. The two coaches were also re-railed and the site was cleared.

In all, 100 workers and two excavators were involved in the restoration work.

At Tunnel No 7, the debris, muck, rubble and earth were cleared and track was restored for traffic at the second spot viz Dudhsagar-Sonaulim.

According to SWR, a speed restriction on 10 kmph has been imposed, temporarily, in view of safety and further monitoring of the spots and nearby locations will be carried out for the next 24-48 hrs, very closely. To prevent further land slips, and erosion of earth of the hill due to rain, shoring arrangements are being done using rails and sleepers at these spots and nearby other spots. Senior Officers from SWR HQs and Hubballi Division monitored the restoration work as Ghat section had no road access.

Meanwhile, General Manager of SWR Gajanan Mallya conducted safety inspection from Belagavi to Londa by interacting with frontline staff at Londa.

He also inspected track and other safety related items in Castle Rock – Kulem Ghat section. Mallya interacted with Station Masters, Locopilots and other staff and issued necessary directions to ensure safe train operations.
