Rane asks Parsekar to visit jails and understand the problems

PORVORIM: Two days after Ashpak Bengre was murdered in the Colvale ‘Correctional Home’, and following reports of unlawful activities being carried out in jails, Opposition Leader, Pratapsingh Rane urged Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar to understand the problems faced by inmates through jail visits.
Speaking on the demands for grants on jails, the Opposition Leader also suggested that hardened criminals be lodged separately.
“I don’t know whether our Home Minister (Parsekar) has ever visited jails. I request him to visit the jails and ask the inmates to discuss their grievances in writing. The hardened criminals should be kept separately from other criminals,” Opposition Leader, Pratapsingh Rane  said.
The Opposition Leader  recalled that as Home Minister, he had visited jails and in the process had once received a letter from an inmate – a drug accused – alleging male prostitution in Aguada jail.
Lamenting the failed law and order in the State, Rane also demanded to know why one ‘Kiran’ was not being identified for his involvement in matka racket.
“Who is this Kiran? I don’t know why the police are not able to apprehend him,” the Opposition Leader said.
Crime Branch is investigating an First Information Report (FIR) based on a complaint filed by a group of activists wherein a politician by name ‘Kiran’ is named as an accused.
