VASCO: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has directed a bread manufacturing company to stop production till pest control measures are undertaken in its factory, after a Loutolim-based customer found rat droppings in the slice bread purchased by him.
The customer complained to the FDA with the help of GOACAN after he found rat droppings in the freshly purchased sliced bread packet.
The incident occurred when the customer’s wife was preparing breakfast in the morning.
Following a complaint, FDA designated officer Richard Noronha asked the company situated at the Sancoale Industrial Estate to stop immediately production and resume only after undertaking thorough pest control measures. The notice was issued under Section 32 of The Food Safety and Standard Act.
Meanwhile, the FDA has imposed penalty on eight food business operators for manufacturing and selling sub-standard and misbranded cashew nuts.
