MARGAO: The canteen at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, which was forced to close down following several complaints, is likely to be reopened soon, as the Bhavan has constituted a three-member committee to look into the issue.
It may be recalled that after several complaints, the canteen was closed and the contract was terminated. However, the contract may be soon given to the same contractor Usgaonkar as he has approached the Bhavan authorities seeking that the tender be awarded to him even before the tenders could be opened.
Earlier, Usgaonkar bagged the canteen contract and following several complaints regarding the unhygienic conditions at the Canteen, the Bhavan authorities had to take an urgent decision of closing it down. The FDA had raided the canteen and directed Usgaonkar to shut the same citing hygiene conditions. The contract was terminated immediately.
The sudden closure of the canteen has inconvenienced the people visiting the Ravindra Bhavan in getting food, water, tea etc.
Ravindra Bhavan has tiatr shows in the evenings daily and over 1000 people visit the venue everyday. The current contract is supposed to end in December and on the basis of this, the contractor has written to the Bhavan authorities to retender the contract to him. The three-member committee is presently studying the matter.
When inquired, Ravindra Bhavan member secretary Krishna Signapurkar said, “Tenders were invited for the canteen contract but they have not been opened as yet. There were complaints regarding the contractor.”
Meanwhile, Ravindra Bhavan vice chairman Chandan Naik has claimed that the people inconvenienced due to the canteen closure.
