Recruitment for freedom fighters’ children extended to Feb 28, 2021

148 from 406 registered have been given jobs since 2013

PANJIM: Ahead of the agitation called by the children of freedom fighters over government’s failure to provide them jobs, the Department of Home has informed that the scheme for Employment in Government to this “Reserved Category” has been extended till February 28, 2021.
The department has also clarified that since the notification of scheme came into existence in 2013, 148 from amongst a total 406 children of freedom fighters registered with them, are given government jobs. 
“The government is keen on accommodating the children of freedom fighters in government jobs to best extent possible within the provisions of the said scheme and as per the Recruitment Rules in force. The government has therefore extended the validity of the said scheme up to February 28, 2021,” the release issued by the Department of Information & Publicity states. 
“The Government has already initiated the process for inviting vacancies reserved for children of Freedom Fighter from various Departments and the scrutiny regarding suitability of the eligible candidates to the various posts has been completed and the Government will soon fill the vacancies reserved for the children of Freedom Fighter which is a present 5 per cent for Group C posts. As regards the Gazetted posts the reservation for children of Freedom Fighter is 2 per cent which would be filled by way of recruitment process through GPSC.”
It has been reported by certain media that children of freedom fighters have called an agitation on November 6 over alleged failure of the government to provide them jobs. The agitating group will also raise other issues such as non allotment of land, etc.
