SANGUEM: The residents of Cotarli, Sanguem on Wednesday heaved a sigh of relief after PWD commenced the work to lay bigger diameter pipes to ease the flow of monsoon water.
The work of laying the pipes will be completed with two days, informed sources.
Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar along with AE Nadkarni visited the site on Tuesday evening and got acquainted themselves with the ongoing work.
It may be recalled that the villagers had to go without electricity for three days as the department was forced to disconnect the power transformer, which nearly got submerged.
The locals had even resorted to ‘rasta roko’ agitation demanding immediate resumption of power supply.
However, the villagers were later convinced by Sanguem MLA and others of the dangers if the transformer is switched on.
Gaonkar had assured the villagers of replacing the small pipes with big ones to ease the flow of rainwater to put an end to water logging problems in the village.
Since then the MLA has been constantly following up the matter and finally got the project work sanctioned before monsoons.
