PONDA: The students of the Anganwadi School in Opa-Khandepar are now relieved, as they have a brand new toilet facility, thanks to the timely coverage by O Heraldo last year. The government responded to the concerns raised and renovated and repaired the dilapidated toilet block at the school.
Sandeep Parkar, a social worker, highlighted that the toilet block was in a deteriorated condition, with cracks in the walls posing a threat of collapse. Moreover, the damaged state of the facility raised concerns about the potential entry of scorpions and reptiles into the Anganwadi premises, creating an unsafe environment for the children. The parents, alarmed by these conditions, were worried about the well-being of their children.
O Heraldo’s coverage of the issue drew attention to the dire situation, prompting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to direct officials to address the matter urgently. Subsequently, the children were temporarily relocated to the premises of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for their safety.
The Women and Child Welfare Minister, Vishwajit Rane, and local MLA Ravi Naik took the initiative to oversee the repairs and renovation of the toilet block. The completion of this work has not only resolved the immediate concerns but has also improved the overall sanitation facilities for the Anganwadi students. The local community and Parent-Teacher Association expressed their gratitude to O Heraldo for bringing attention to the issue and facilitating the necessary actions for the well-being of the students.
