PERNEM: The service road from Torxem to Tamboxem is in a pathetic condition. The road is full of potholes and poses a danger to motorists and daily commuters. The locals have raised serious concerns about the road and urged authorities to repair it before Ganesh Chaturthi.
One local said, “The roads are so bad that one does not know if there are potholes on the road or the road is on the potholes. The Government had promised a service road, but the 200 to 300 metre service road is in a very bad condition.”
“MVR is the son in law of the govt. There is not a single engineer supervising the work of the labourers. The PWD Minister too is sleeping,” the local added. “ The potholes in some places are as big as one metre, but the government is not bothered to repair them. The engineers have powers to recommend extension of contractor’s contracts but they do not have power to repair roads. They only take their 12 to 20% commissions,” he said.
“Many people from Pernem have lost their family members in accidents. Most people travel on two wheelers for Chaturthi shopping,” the local said.
