PERNEM: Pernem Citizens Forum has threatened to protest if the PWD fails to repair the pothole-ridden NH 17 and other internal roads in Pernem within 15 days.
Forum president Rajmohan Shetye said, “We will gherao the local MLA and PWD office if they do not repair the roads within 15 days.”
Addressing the media, Shetye said, “The roads have developed potholes, which have made commuting a nightmare for daily travellers. On account of the bad condition of roads at least 3 or 4 persons have lost their lives across the State. Despite such fatal accidents and the bad road conditions how can the government be so calm?”
“Motorists are facing inconvenience due to the bad road conditions. Not only the locals but even the tourists are facing difficulty in commuting along these roads. If the concerned authorities do not take action and repair the road within the given time than we will be forced to take necessary steps against the contractors and the engineer”, Shetye warned.
Shetye informed that not only the highway even several internal roads in Pernem are in bad shape. In Korgao, the roads, which have been dug up to lay pipeline, are not repaired.
