MARGAO: Thousands of litres of water were wasted due to a pipeline burst while installing valves at Power house junction in Margao.
An incident was reported on Friday morning, where the workers were engaged in repair work of the said pipeline, but unfortunately they failed to stop the water supply before commencement of the said work, and as result a huge quantity of water got wasted.
This also affected the water supply for several hours in the area. The incident took place at 11.30 am.
Speaking to the media Krishna Naik, official at the site said that the workers were assigned to replace the valves in the morning. It was decided to close the channel for some time as it wanted to work on the existing channel. The workers had started work after being informed that the waterway was closed.
A gas cutter was used to cut the iron conduit, but as soon as the canal cracked, water started flowing out; as a result thousands of liters of water went wasted.
Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuyekar spotted the incident while passing through the area. He soon contacted senior officials of the department and instructed them to act immediately. However, the water supply was restored in the late evening hours and the valve was also repaired.
