CANACONA: A two-month-old leopard cub that was rescued 15 days ago from a residential area at Poinguinim is recuperating at Hathipal Rescue Centre, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary.
According to Forest (Wildlife) sources, forest guards rescued the female leopard cub after it got trapped in a water body at Chiplem residential area in Poinguinim. It was found in an injured state and needed medical care.
The cub now over the days has become very close to humans, while it is treated to its injuries at the Hathipal Rescue Centre in Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary and is reportedly responding well to the medication with most of the injuries healing.
“The wild cub when allowed to go out under supervision moves freely in the open and returns back to the cage,” informed a reliable forest (Wildlife) source.
The forest officials have kept a watch on the area, where the cub was found, but failed to notice movements of the cub’s mother.
Deputy Conservator of Forest Ramesh Gauns Dessai also visited the Hathipal Rescue Centre to inquire about the health condition of the injured cub, informed sources.
