Review meeting on Nipah virus today

PANJIM: As Kerala is once again in the grip of deadly Nipah virus, the Goa government has called for a high-level meeting on Monday to review the situation in the State that attracts several lakh tourists from different parts of the country and world. 
The meeting, to be chaired by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, will also be attended by Health Secretary. “The Government of Goa is in view of the Nipah virus which has surfaced in the neighbouring state of Kerala and we will be acting upon it to take precaution for the same. Under my chairmanship, we will be having a review meeting on Monday with Secretary Health for allocation of duties,” the minister said. He further said that the Director of Health will take all necessary measures in public interest with Health Secretary to monitor the development. 
 “I request people of Goa not to panic and consult doctor on showing any symptoms of the virus,” he added.
The virus has yet again hit Kerala with over 300 people kept under observation and quarantined. The southern State witnessed the last outbreak in 2018 claiming around 17 lives and declared over in June 2018.
