PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) move to induct Pandurang Madkaikar into the party appears to have backfired. On Monday, BJP workers from Cumbharjua, including core members of the yuva morcha and the local mandal, met Union Minister Shripad Naik at his residence and conveyed their displeasure at the induction of the former Congress MLA.
Naik, after hearing the party workers assured them that the recent development in Cumbhajua constituency and the views of the party workers will be placed before BJP’s core committee at the Centre, even as his son Siddesh did not rule out the possibility of him joining hands with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).
“I will convey the sentiments of the BJP workers to the central core committee. There is no need to be disappointed. The party’s sentiments should not be hurt by any of our acts,” the Union minister told the workers late Monday evening.
Nearly 100 BJP workers from Cumbarjua, including from its youth wing, met Shripad Naik in the presence of his son Siddesh who was hoping to get the BJP ticket in the constituency.
BJYM leader Nilam Parab from Cumbharjua said that if the party ticket is not given to Siddesh he should contest as an Independent candidate. He also urged the Union minister to allow his son to contest as an Independent candidate if party gives the ticket to Madkaikar.
However, Shripad asked workers to wait for a few days so that he can brief the national leaders of the factual position in the constituency.
Speaking to Herald, Siddhesh has not ruled out the possibility of joining hands with the MGP and said his future course of action will be decided later.
