MARGAO: The Additional District and Session Judge Margao Vincent D’Silva on Thursday sentenced one rickshaw driver Aman Gopal Kavitya, aged 21, to life imprisonment for committing robbery and murder of Baptista D’Costa of Colva.
The accused is a native of Pune and was residing in a rented room at Colva since past many years. As per the court orders, accused Aman Gopal is sentenced to undergo life imprisonment under Section 302 of IPC and pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

The accused is also sentenced under Section 394 of IPC for robbery and directed to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and fine of Rs 25,000 and to undergo simple imprisonment for one year. Further, under Section 201 of IPC for destroying evidence, the accused is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of two years and pay fine of Rs10,000 and to undergo simple imprisonment of six months The court order says that above sentence will run concurrently.
As per prosecution, on January 20, 2018 at Lover’s Beach, Betalbatim, the accused committed murder of Baptista, 51-year-old resident of First Ward, Colva, running motorcycles and taxi business, by slitting his neck with a sharp weapon. After committing the murder, the accused concealed the blood-stained knife in the bushes at Lover’s Beach and robbed gold jewellery worn by the deceased, cash, two mobiles and further concealed them at different places in the bushes thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 302,394 and 201 of IPC.
