CALANGUTE: A road at Baga caved in for the third time due to the poor quality of work done on the patching of the road. This has raised fear and anxiety amongst the motorists, two-wheeler riders and pedestrians, since they don’t know when parts of the road will cave in.
The entire stretch was dug due to laying of the underground sewerage pipeline. Commuters traveling recount the pain staking ride and also accidents occurring due to the poor quality work done. This is the third major cave in during the monsoon this year, locals said.
“They have destroyed our roads by laying the sewerage pipeline. We are suffering for the last 10 years. Every resident of Calangute will say that this project has been a complete failure. Every year we have complained to the PWD in writing to repair these roads,” Baga local said.
“The roads start sinking in the months of June, July and August,” the resident said.
A female resident of the area recounted that the place where the road has sunk is a critical junction. “We have our chapel here. There is an old age home. Due to these gaping holes, the senior citizens get scared to go for Mass to the chapel” she said.
