PONDA: The District and Additional Session Court, Ponda on Monday cancelled bail of Goa AAP’s Goa chief Advocate Amit Palekar in Banastarim accident case. The arguments were held in the matter last Friday and thereafter, the Court order came on Monday.
The Crime Branch had filed application on August 21 in Court for cancellation of Adv Amit Palekar’s bail in Banstarim accident case, citing that he had violated the bail condition by visiting four countries without court permission.

According to Public Prosecutor Rajaram Desai, the Court, in its order dated November 8, 2023, had given Palekar the permission only to visit France. He had given details of his departure and arrival along with documentary proof on ground that family holiday was booked prior to he was made accused in Banastari accident case, therefore the order has to be read strictly permitting Palekar to leave India to visit France only.
Further, the public prosecutor brought to Court notice that subsequently, Palekar travelled to four other countries without obtaining permission from Court, thereby violating the bail condition.
During the hearing, Palekar’s lawyer told that the court had given permission to go abroad and had not restricted the travel to France.
The Crime Branch arrested State AAP president Amit Palekar for allegedly tampering with evidence and trying to produce a decoy driver to protect accused Paresh Sawardekar, who allegedly at wheels, when the accident happened on August 6 last year, which killed three persons.
In the latest update, following the cancellation of his bail, AAP Goa Chief Adv Amit Palekar has filed a revision petition in the High Court, with the hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning. The petition challenges the Ponda court’s decision, particularly in light of the foreign trips that led to the breach of bail conditions.
