PANJIM: With the condition of roads deteriorating in the capital and surrounding areas, the PWD chose to blame the sewerage line, works on which were carried out over the last three to four months.
In fact, the PWD felt that the heavy rains are helping the soil to settle down completely before asphalting works is carried out after the monsoons.
The Principal Chief Engineer J S Rego said, “Since the roads are dug between three to five meters deep at almost all the stretches, for laying the sewerage lines, the depressions are taking place frequently even though temporary compacting is also being carried out at regular intervals.”
“It is impossible to carry out any permanent repair works now,” he said adding that the sewerage division will undertake the repairs and asphalting once the rains cease.
Most of the roads at Taleigao, Caranzalem, Dona Paula and St Inez are in pathetic condition with potholes getting wider every passing day.
Residents in most of these areas who initially complained about dust are now complaining about the potholes and muck filed streets where the sewerage lines were being laid.
The poor condition of roads is also resulting in minor accidents of collision or skidding with three to four incidents reported daily.
