MARGAO: An illegal structure being built by migrants at Khareband, Margao drew flak from residents and a local councillor who demanded that the officials of the Margao Municipal Council demolish the same.
Councillor Mahesh Amonkar said that he would file a written complaint against the illegal structure and warned that such type of activities will not be tolerated in his ward.
Locals stated that several migrants were residing in Khareband illegally and creating nuisance.
“I was shocked to notice a few illegal structures being erected and more are in the pipeline at Khareband and informed the officials of the Municipality,” said Amonkar.
Later, on Wednesday evening, a team of the civic body along with the councillor held the site inspection and it was proved that the migrants had indeed erected the illegal structure.
The migrants did not have any document with them and hence the locals alleged that structure was erected with the blessings of the political leaders.
“In order to crack the whip on such illegal activities, the civic body needs to be vigilant. Migrants erect structures and reside illegally whereas locals have to go through several hardships even to construct a retaining wall around their legal houses,” said Rajesh Naik, resident of Margao.
