PANJIM: A whopping Rs 15 crore worth drugs was seized by Goa Police in last two years, arresting nearly 450 persons for the illicit trade, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, on Saturday.
In his message on the International Day Against Drug Abuse, Sawant said that his government is committed towards zero tolerance to illegal drugs.
“Goa reiterates its commitment to Zero Tolerance to Illegal Drugs,” Sawant said adding that continuous action by Police has broken the back of drug trafficking in the State.
The Chief Minister informed that in the last two years over 275 kgs of illegal drugs worth nearly Rs 15 crore have been seized.
He further said that while nearly 400 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 cases are registered and over 450 persons have been arrested.
Earlier, as per the information released by Goa Police, in the last six months till June 21, total Rs 1.5 crore drugs have been seized.
The Narcotics cell arrested 55 peddlers that include seven foreign nationals. The 48.33 kg drugs seized from January to June 21, 2021 is worth Rs 1,16,32,100. Approximately, Rs 59.03 lakh worth of drugs has been seized by Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) and the North Goa District Police seized worth nearly Rs 31.74 lakh.
