REIS MAGOS: Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has initiated the process to beautify and illuminate the Three Kings Church at Reis Magos. The works to give the ancient church a face lift will be carried out soon at an estimated cost of around Rs 50 lakh. This was the first church to be built in Bardez taluka and currently its surroundings are in dilapidated condition. The works to repair a part of the cemetery which is in bad condition will be taken up on priority.
The local MLA has decided to undertake the works of hot-mixing the road near the church as this village is famous for the church and the fort.
“Since this is a very ancient church, which has a lot of historic value, we requested the Archbishop to allow us to take up the beautification and illumination works. He considered our request and has positively given us a green signal to go ahead with the works,” said Salgaonkar.
“We are proud to have this church in Reis Magos village, which is one of the first churches in Bardez taluka. The steps leading to the church have a unique architectural design, which will be illuminated,” he added.
Reis Magos sarpanch Virendra Shirodkar and panchas were present.
