PANJIM: Retired High Court Judge Justice Nutan D Sardessai took over the charge as the Chairperson of the State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA), Altinho, Panjim on Monday, June 21.
It may be recalled that on June 9, the State cabinet had given its approval to Sardessai’s SPCA appointment and for reconstitution of the related committee. The tenure of the last chairperson Justice RMS Khandeparkar had ended on April 15, 2018 since then the SPCA was non-functional.
SPCA is constituted in States across India with the objective of adjudicating allegations of improper or shoddy investigations, refusal to file FIRs, custodial torture and high-handedness against the police.
