Rumblers laid at Sirlim to prevent accidents

MARGAO: The PWD on Wednesday began installing rumblers at major accident prone stretch of the National Highway in Sirlim near the Our Lady of Merces Chapel.
The stretch had taken several lives in the last few years ever since it had been expanded. The locals had been demanded speed beakers or rumblers along the road since the last many months.
Franky Pereira, a local who stays along the highway said that atleast 57accidents took place since the road is updated. “The people living along the highway have witness many accidents. All of us help the victims whenever there is an accident,” he said.
Dominic Noroha, a local of Sirlim informed that a Panchayat resolution had been passed and the proposal was sent a few months ago. “The MLA also took the matter up and sent a priority letter and a note after the people had approached him. The PWD Engineers also have to be appreciated for taking the work up promptly,” said Noronha.
Locals said that they hope that the rumblers prevent accidents and the government installs dividers soon so that vehicles do not overtake on the opposite lane.
Local MLA Filipe Nery Rodrigues informed Herald that the road was accident prone and that the locals had passed a resolution and approached him.
