Sanguem residents oppose installation of mobile tower

SANGUEM: The residents of Orcotto in Sanguem have strongly objected to the installation of a cell phone tower in a private property, since the locality is dense residential.
Residents residing in the locality are literally upset with the modus operandi followed by the company and the land owner in getting the ground work done for the installation of the mobile tower.
A local Apolonario Gomes informed that since past few days, the company has been boring on a private land that is barely few metres away from Government Primary School and a balwadi. When Gomes reportedly inquired with the workers at site as to why they were boring the place, he was reportedly told that it was for soil testing.
However, inquiries by the villagers from other sources revealed that the company is in the process of installing a mobile tower in the locality which prompted the residents rush to the Sanguem Municipal Council to make enquiries on the same. At the municipality, the residents learnt that the owner has applied for an NOC for installing a mobile tower, while the company has applied for NOC for electricity connection.
SMC Chairperson Romualdo Fernandes informed that the council has not given any NOC to the company and the land owner as on date. Fernandes also informed that if there are objections from the residents, the municipality would refrain from issuing the NOC.
Gomes claimed that if the company installed a tower in the midst of the densely populated area, the residents would face severe consequences in the long run. Gomes claimed that installing the tower barely few metres away from the primary school and the balwadi would be a health risk to the students.
Gomes informed that a formal memorandum objecting the installation of the tower would be handed over to the Sanguem Municipal Council on Thursday.
