Russian national’s body found floating at Pernem

PERNEM: A partly decomposed body of a Russian national was found floating in a river stream, at Pernem, on Sunday.

According to the Pernem Police, on Sunday afternoon, some locals of Parsem saw a body floating in a river stream. The locals then immediately called the police control room and informed about the body floating in a river stream at Khazankundo-Chonsai, Parsem.

Immediately, a team of Pernem Police Station rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the Fire Station Pernem personnel were also informed. 

Both the teams witnessed the body lying on a marshy area of the river. Fire personnel then ventured into the river and retrieved the body.

During the panchanama, the body was identified of one Evgeny Cherenkov, a 49-year-old Russian national, who allegedly committed suicide.

The deceased Russian was residing at Bamon Vaddo, Siolim.

During further inquiry, it was revealed that the deceased person was missing from his room for the last two days and was under depression and had sent text messages to his friend in Russia that he is committing suicide.

It is suspected that the victim must have committed suicide at some other spot and during high tide the body must have floated and reached at Parse River side.

After conducting the panchanama, the body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for post mortem.

Police Sub-Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar is further investigating the case under supervision of Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi.
