S Goa Collector orders closure of all liquor shops by 10 pm in VPs

MARGAO: In view of the upcoming by-polls in five village panchayats of South Goa, the District Collector has ordered that the serving or selling of liquor in all the liquor bars, pubs, shops, clubs, shacks or any establishment shall be closed everyday by 10 pm with immediate effect in the areas where the polls will be held.

These orders under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, 1972, are being enforced with immediate effect and will remain till the Model Code of Conduct is in force.

 “This order shall be applicable in ward no VI of Village Panchayat (VP) of Orlim, Ward no 1 of Village Panchayat of Rachol of Salcete taluka; Ward no II of village panchayat of Calem of Sanguem taluka, Ward no IV of Village Panchayat of Bali-Adnem and Ward No VII of Village Panchayat of Barcem-Quedem of Quepem taluka in South Goa District,” said Asvin Chandru, District Collector.

The collector earlier pointed out that Goa State Election Commission has announced the Bye Elections in single wards of Orlim VP, Rachol VP in Salcete taluka, Calem VP in Sanguem taluka and Bali-Adnem & Barcem-Quedem in Quepem taluka will be held on March 25, 2023.

The Collector had further added that the model code of conduct had already come into force on March 2, 2023.

The Collector further mentioned that the flying squads, officials of the Excise Department, Sector Magistrate, Police or any other authorised officers/officials shall act immediately in case any violations.
