VASCO: The Electricity Department has said that the power shutdown to South Goa on May 16, Saturday, will solve the frequent power cuts and fluctuation issue. The power shut down will start at 7 am and end at 3 pm.
Assistant Engineer of Electricity Department Vasco, Sanjeev Mhalshekar was speaking to Herald about the problems faced in Vasco and surrounding areas based on complaints received from locals. He also attributed the problems due to the ongoing pre-monsoon related works and the sudden increase in consumption of electricity, which has increased the load on the electricity feeders.
“To decrease the load on the Harbour sub-station, we have shifted the 6.3 MV feeder from the Harbour station to the Bogda substation and it now handles the entire load of the Headland Sada area. This will lead to reduced power cuts,” Mhalshekar added.
He further stated that the pre-monsoon maintenance works usually starts in February but due to the lockdown, it got postponed.
“As of now the department is doing the maintenance work. The power shut down on Saturday will help us in a big way as far as taking action on distributing of power, shifting of load equally to all sub stations etc. Hopefully post this, people will not face power cuts and fluctuation issues,” Mhalshekar added.
Elaborating further, he said the junior engineers are identifying and monitoring areas, from where they have received complaints related to power supply.
“On Wednesday we had a meeting with the Power Minister Nilesh Cabral. We discussed about the power supply related issues. He has assured to cooperate in all possible ways,” Mhalshekar said
