MARGAO: From the 35 candidates in the fray for the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections in Salcete taluka, two candidates are seeking additional terms while two persons who were members in the last term have fielded their wives as the candidates.
Edwin Cardoso is seeking a second term from Navelim constituency. Interestingly, Edwin was elected last time when the constituency was reserved for OBC but this time it is in the general category and he is seeking a second term. The other person seeking a second term is Ulhas Tuenkar from Davorlim Constituency.
At Curtorim which is reserved for women, outgoing ZP member Moreno Rebello has fielded his wife Michelle Rebello. Incidentally, at the elections held in 2015, Clafasio Dias was elected. However, he resigned subsequently after getting elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly.
At Raia, the outgoing ZP member Fatima Gaonkar’s husband Domnic has filed his nomination papers. Incidentally, Domnic had earlier represented Raia constituency in the ZP before it was reserved for women. This time Raia is in the general category while last time it was reserved for ST Women.
