PANJIM: Saligao constituency has been selected under the National Rurban Scheme by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, with an objective to stimulate local economic development, enhance basic services and create well planned rurban clusters.
“Our Saligao constituency has been selected under National Rurban Scheme to stimulate local economic development, enhance basic services and create well planned rurban clusters,” MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar announced on tweeter.
He said that constant follow up with various Central government agencies has yielded fruit.
Under the scheme, the constituency will get Rs 30 crore initial funding. “We have forts, boating facilities, springs, khazan lands, heritage houses, which can be developed and maintained under the scheme,” Salgaonkar, also a minister, said.
National Rurban Mission (NRuM) follows the vision of development of a cluster of villages that preserve and nurture the essence of rural community life with a focus on equity and inclusiveness without compromising with the facilities perceived to be essentially urban in nature, thus creating a cluster of ‘rurban villages’.
