Samant’s anticipatory bail plea hearing on Oct 6

PANJIM: The Additional Sessions Court, Mapusa will hear the anticipatory bail application of senior journalist Rupesh Samant on October 6.

Samant, has been charged on various counts of harassment and sexual intimidation of women journalists had moved for anticipatory bail last Saturday.
While the matter has been adjourned, the State opposed the application apprehending he could interfere with the evidence available so far.
Samant has denied all charges stating that he is shocked to learn that cases have been registered under Sections 354 and 354-A of Indian Penal Code. “He is falsely implicated in the above crime in order to tarnish his image among colleagues. The accusations against the applicant are being made with the sole intention of injuring and humiliating him by having him arrested,” the application submitted to the court by Adv Raju Poulekar reads. 
Assuring to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, Samant stated that he does not have any criminal antecedents and is a law-abiding citizen with good roots in the village. 
The prosecution has, however, mentioned that he has three cases of house trespass registered at Margao Police Station.
Adv Poulekar submitted another application to the court seeking a copy of the two FIRs registered against his client. This application will be heard on October 3.
