MARGAO: In a pre-dawn raid, officials of the forest department raided at house at Comba-Margao and seized 22 kilograms of Sambhar meat.
Acting on a tip off, the officials made their presence felt at the house at around 6 am and conducted the raid. A search of the house unearthed the meat stacked in bags in one of the rooms.
The raiding party found only females inside the house and later sought details of the accused person involved in bringing the meat.
Deputy Conservator of Forests, South Sanjay Waradkar told newsmen at the spot that the Sambhar meat weighed around 22 kilograms. He said the team is trying to verify the name of the accused since only females were found inside.
He said the accused will be arrested as and when apprehended by the Forest officials, adding that the Forest Department will book a case against the culprit under the Wildlife Protection Act.
Forest officials said only the arrest of the accused person will help to unearth details such as the source of the meat and its destination. “We have noted the mobile number of the accused and have sought details as part of the investigations,” Waradkar added.
