Sanatan complains against ATS officer

Alleges pressure on institution to provide information about visitors

PANJIM: Sanatan Sanstha has lodged a complaint against an officer of the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) for pressurising the institution to provide information about visitors at its Ashram in Ramnathi, Ponda.
“Brijesh Naik, an officer of Goa Anti-Terrorism Squad is trying to pressurise the office bearers of Sanatan Sanstha for providing information. This smacks of an attempt to bring pressure on Sanatan Sanstha. Because of such behaviour on his part, Sanatan Sanstha is afraid whether some wrong information about Sanatan Sanstha is being conveyed to the head quarters of ATS in Panjim. Therefore, the cognisance of the entire incident may be taken,” Sanatan Sanstha managing trustee Virendra Marathe said.
Details shared by Chetan Rajhans, National Spokesperson of the institution also states that Naik’s interaction with Marathe was in a threatening manner.
“The Anti-Terrorism Squad in Goa implements a programme to gather information about unknown persons, out-of-State guests and overseas guests visiting Goa on holidays or for several other reasons and staying in private residential quarters. In this regard, a letter was given to Sanatan Sanstha in August 2018 to the effect that information about migrant visitors from out of Goa and foreigners who visit Sanatan’s Ashram, Ramnathi, Ponda, Goa should be submitted every fortnight. Accordingly, Sanatan Sanstha informed ATS and started submitting the requisite information. Later, Naik interacted threateningly with Marathe as mentioned above,” it stated.
ATS is yet to confirm receipt of the complaint and action taken, if any thereof.
It is pertinent that the persons arrested for the killing of a number of progressive thinkers are alleged to be the members of Sanatan Sanstha.
