PONDA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Kholapur questioned the trustees of Sanatan Asram at Ramnathi on Tuesday and Wednesday seeking information on some Sadhaks who are suspected of having played a role in the murder of rationalist Govind Pansare.
Confirming the questioning of the trustees, Sanathan spokesperson Abay Vartak expressed strong resentment at the leaking of the contents of investigation to the media. Though the investigators say that their investigation is routine, he complained, what is reported in the media is defamatory.
When asked who he suspected was trying to defame the Sanatan, Vartak gave an evasive answer saying that his organization is giving spiritual lessons the people, but some antisocial elements who want to destroy culture of India are trying to defame the Sanatan.
Refusing to divulge the details of the questioning, Vartak said, “We are fully cooperating with the officials in their investigation. However, the investigation is misused to defame the Sanatan, which should not happen.”
He contended that those disclosing the details of the investigation to the media “are violating the High Court order which has clearly directed the officials not to disclose the investigation part to media and hope that the court will take cognizance” of the disclosure.
