VASCO: Sancoale-based RTI activist Narayan Naik, who is the brother of South Goa BJP District head Tulshidas Naik, was attacked and assaulted by two unknown persons with iron rods on his head and legs causing him serious injuries, on Saturday.
Naik was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, after the attack.
As per the information received from the Verna Police, Narayan Naik (52), resident of Savarfond-Sancoale, was assaulted in the afternoon near the entrance of Sancoale Village Panchayat, on the internal road. The complainant along with his friend Vishal Naik(45), resident of Zorint, Sancoale, were proceeding towards their vehicle after completing their work at the panchayat. At that time, two unknown accused persons wearing dark grey colour raincoat with hood and black coloured face mask having medium height and average built with their common intention, assaulted the complainant with iron rod on his head, legs and other parts of the body thereby causing the complainant serious bodily injuries and thus allegedly attempting to murder him. The unknown accused persons also assaulted the complainant’s friend Vishal with iron rod.
Sources informed that one of the unknown accused persons also removed a fire arm and pointed at the complainant and threatened to kill him. When Vishal resisted to the assault, at that juncture, another accused person lifted his raincoat jacket and displayed a firearm which was tucked beneath. Thereafter, both the accused persons fled away from the spot on their two-wheeler.
The police have registered an offence against two unknown persons under Section 307, 324, 506(II)R/W 34 IPC and Section 3 R/W 25 of Arms Act.
