VASCO: The residents of Sancoale on Wednesday night caught the driver of a septic tanker red-handed while discharging sewage in a residential area at Zorint, Sancoale.

The villagers stated that the dumping of sewage, garbage and debris has been going on for over six months post midnight and demanded action against the perpetrator. They also filed a complaint against the accused at the Verna police station.

On seeing the septic tanker discharging sewage into the gutters, the residents immediately informed the ward member, who questioned the driver, who denied that he had discharged the sewage and told villagers that some unknown person might have opened the valve of the tanker.

The residents complained that for the last six months they have been facing hardships due to illegal discharge of sewage and dumping of wet waste and debris in the residential area during night hours. Due to dumping of garbage the stench was becoming unbearable and was even causing health hazards.

The residents decided to keep a vigil on the movement of tankers in the village and caught the septic tanker while discharging the sewage on Wednesday night. The residents stated that the tanker owner refused to come to the police station and instead tried to put mud on the sewage, which was discharged in the residential area.

Following a complaint, the Verna police visited the site and took photographs of the area where sewage was released.
