Sancoale’s resounding ‘no’ to marinas in bay

Also decide to revise revenue receipts from Zuari Industries which were fixed in 1972

VASCO: The Sancoale Panchayat unanimously resolved to oppose setting up of any marina project at Sancoale Bay. A resolution to this effect was taken in the gram sabha held on Sunday.
“As assured by me in the past, we have formally adopted a resolution to oppose setting up of any marina at Sancoale and I feel proud that the whole village is backing the panchayat in this historic decision” said Sancoale Sarpanch Sharan Meti.
Meanwhile the gram sabha members also resolved to recover extra fees from the ship repair yards that are building ships in the name of repair yards. It was also resolved to revise the revenue receipts from Zuari Industries as the same was fixed in the year 1972. “In the last several decades infrastructure at Zuari Industries double; however, the tax fixed was never revised and thus we decided to increase the same as per the provisions of the law,” Meti said.
Imposing of one month rent as Panchayat fees to the party who has either given or taken property on lease in Sancoale Panchayat jurisdiction besides other issues were discussed in the gram sabha meeting that was peaceful.
