At 1:30 am, the Curchorem police received a call from PHC Curchorem that two people were brought in for treatment, of which one was dead and one was critically injured in a shooting incident at Maad-Bansai in Curchorem. An unknown accused fired gunshots on three persons allegedly carrying out illegal sand extraction using a canoe. The third person managed to escape unhurt.
23-year-old Yusuf Aslam from Jharkhand succumbed to his injuries, while 33-year-old Mohammed Sahu is critically injured with bullet injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at GMC, Bambolim.

Based on the information received, SP Sammy Tavares and his team arrived at the spot to conduct a panchnama to ascertain the cause of the incident, after which the deceased’s body will be sent for postmortem. The police also called in a forensic team to gather possible evidence at the spot.
