SANGUEM: After the detection of first COVID-19 case in Sanguem last week, the taluka got its third COVID-19 positive patient on Wednesday.

The patient’s sample was amongst the 26 samples that had been collected by the health officials on Tuesday. These 26 Ponsamoll Uguem locals had come into contact with the second COVID-19 patient from the same village.

The second patient was working as a KTC driver and was reportedly posted on the Vasco – Margao route prior to his testing positive. Similarly the first patient from Sanguem hailed from Mugoli ward also from Uguem village and worked as a health worker at Urban Health Centre Vasco.

Incidentally, the reports of all the swab samples collected from Mugoli village which included the family members of the patient have come negative.

The villagers of Mugoli have also remained in home quarantine since the detection of first case in the village.

The samples of the remaining 25 people come back as negative, informed sources attached to Sanguem Primary Health Centre (PHC).

Sanguem PHC also collected swab samples of another 35 villagers from Ponsamoll to check if there are more cases in the locality.

Meanwhile, several shop owners in Sanguem want to keep the shops closed in the market for some days in view of the recent developments.

That decision will be taken on Thursday, after they meet the Deputy Collector.
