Sanguem locals call for ‘rasta roko’ today

SANGUEM: Given the sudden stoppage of construction of the parallel bridge at Bendwada, coupled with the incidences of the contractor slowly moving the machinery and material from the construction site, the Sanguem locals under the banner of Sanguekarancho Eovott have called for “rasta roko” agitation at Bendwada Bridge, here, on Sunday, at 2 pm.

Speaking at the press conference held at Sanguem, President of Sanguemkarancho Ekvott accompanied by other committee members Michael Fernandes, Mithil Dessai and Dilesh Sambhari urged the people from Sanguem irrespective of party affiliations to join the agitation sharp at 2 pm.

Youth activist Meshu Da Costa informed that allegedly at the behest of a political leader from Sanguem, development projects in the constituency are kept on hold by the government.

“We will not permit political interference in the development works in the constituency particularly with respect to the parallel bridge at Bendwada, the work of which was started a year back but was stopped in March when the Coronavirus pandemic hit the world,” Da Costa said.

Till today, the contractor failed in undertaking the construction work of the bridge despite assurance from the authorities that the work would be undertaken soon.

Taking cognizance of the happenings taking place at the bridge site, the people from Sanguem have called the agitation on Sunday December 27, at 2 pm.

He informed that the committee will continue with the agitation till the time, the government assures the people from Sanguem that the work of the construction of the parallel bridge at Bendwada will not be stopped but will be undertaken and completed soon.
