Sanguem locals to get groceries till lockdown period

SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) and all panchayats in the taluka have assured to supply grocery items at people’s doorsteps till the last day of lockdown.

Giving details on the modalities worked in this front, SMC chairperson Romualdo Fernandes informed that at a special meeting on Thursday it was decided to make supply of provisions  available to the people living in all the ten wards with effect from Friday. 

Fernandes informed that on March 27, the SMC will supply a packet of basic groceries comprising of 5 kg rice, 1 kg sugar, soap, detergent and other like items to all at MRP. From March 28, SMC’s designated officers will receive orders from the people in the morning and later due supplies will be made available by the municipal workers at people’s doorsteps.

Fernandes urged the residents from the municipal areas to approach him or their respective ward councillors in case faced with any difficulties in availing the groceries.

Fernandes said the office of Deputy Collector has identified three grocery shops in Sanguem from where the municipality will procure goods to supply to the locals. 

At present, the shops are out of supply, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar has taken the responsibility to make the desired grocery items available at these shops for onward supply to the people.

Deputy Collector Sanguem Ajay Gaude has appealed to the people to stay indoors till the last day of the lockdown and assist the authorities to fight coronavirus.

Gaude informed that his office has chalked out the modalities to supply grocery items to the villages coming within his jurisdiction through volunteers. 

“As of now many people have applied for volunteer services and once the passes are issued we will work on the supply of groceries at people’s doorstep in all villages,” Gaude added.
