Sanguem MLA does makeshift repairs of collapsed bridge at own cost

SANGUEM: After remaining mum over the issue of the collapse of the 40-year-old bridge at Dongor Ward of Bhati Village Panchayat in Sanguem, local MLA Prasad Gaonkar took everyone by surprise when he, at his own cost, laid metal plates across the collapsed bridge to facilitate the villagers cross the river for the time being.
Ever since the bridge collapsed, the issue had been raised at various forums, as it had severed all links Dongor Ward residents with the neighbouring Valshem village.
However, with Gaonkar taking initiative at his own end and at his own cost shut everybody’s mouth particularly in the political circles.
After laying the metal plates, Gaonkar informed that since the collapse of the bridge, he has been trying hard to get the metal bridge which is lying unused at Mirabag Sanvordem to Dongor. However, since the matter pertaining to the metal bridge at Mirabag is in court he could not pursue the matter.
Gaonkar, however, informed the villagers that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has assured construction of a bailey bridge in the village and that the same would be constructed within a month.
“The administrative work pertaining to the construction of bailey bridge in the village is already in the final stages and the same will be completed soon,” Gaonkar informed.
