The Sanguem Primary Health Centre has been shifted to a new building, a move welcomed by residents as a step forward in improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Local councillor Meshu D’Costa described the relocation as good news for the people of Sanguem. However, he raised serious concerns over the lack of essential medical facilities and staff at the new premises.

D’Costa pointed out that while the infrastructure has improved, the centre continues to face a shortage of critical services, including the absence of a gynaecologist, insufficient number of doctors, and lack of diagnostic equipment such as an X-ray machine. He also highlighted the need for trained operators, technicians, and adequate supporting staff to ensure smooth functioning.
According to the councillor, the current situation is further strained as only one pharmacist is managing the workload, which he said is inadequate to meet the needs of the local population.
He also expressed concern over the apparent lack of clarity regarding the formal inauguration of the new building. D’Costa claimed that even the health officer was unaware of the details when questioned about the inauguration.
Urging immediate intervention, the councillor called on the Health Minister to take necessary steps to ensure that the facility is fully equipped, adequately staffed, and made fully functional to serve the people effectively.
