SANGUEM: The citizens from Sanguem town area are literally sore over the lack of drinking water supply since early morning today. While the citizens were expecting restoration of the water supply at least by late evening, there seems to be no possibility of the water being restored at least by tonight.
Sources informed that the Water Supply Department had released an advertisement in a couple of local dailies some days back over the disruption of water supply to the Sanguem town area on Thursday on account of urgent repair work to the old pipeline.
Incidentally, the public notice released in the local dailies went unnoticed by most of the citizens and this created a lot of confusion and lack of drinking water to most of the residents in the town area.
While the citizens waited for the restoration of water supply at least by late in the evening, there was utter disgust among the locals after the department failed to restore water supply till late in the evening.
With no water supply, a number of citizens were seen running to the nearby river to fetch water for domestic chores while some were seen transporting mineral water bottles for drinking water.
Sources informed that as the water pipeline supplying drinking water to the town area had become old and was susceptible to frequent leakages, the department had made provision to replace the weak pipeline with a new one at certain places and as such had sought shutdown for water supply to the town area for today and accordingly an advert was released in the local newspapers.
The affected citizens however argue that in the present days with the social media becoming much powerful and at everybody’s reach, the department could have released the advert in social media as well and this could have conveyed the message of shutdown to maximum people.
The work of replacing the old pipeline was going on till late in the evening and this has made the citizens wondered as to when the water supply will be restored.
