SANGUEM: The long-pending demand of Sanguem citizens for an independent office of Deputy Collector and Inspector of Survey and Land Records will be a reality, with the announcement by Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte that the two offices would be ready by August 15.
People from Sanguem taluka were compelled to travel to Quepem to get their work done in the absence of the office of deputy collector and inspector of land survey records. Many a time locals had to return without getting their work done as officers were unavailable, perhaps due to other administrative works.
However, Khaunte, who visited the Sanguem Mamlatdar’s office on Friday with the South Goa Collector Anjali Sheravat, assured people of opening an independent office of deputy collector and inspector of survey and land records for Sanguem taluka by August 15.
In fact, Khaunte directed the South Goa Collector to clear all administrative works pertaining to the opening of the two new offices at Sanguem at the earliest.
Khaunte informed that the two new offices would be housed in the Sanguem Municipal Market building, where the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) presently functions. The SMC is already on the way to move to a new council building next month.
The minister, who could not visit the office of the civil registrar Sanguem which is awaiting completion, urged officials to replace the fixtures and furnishings put certain things in order at the Sanguem Mamlatdar Office particularly the electrical fittings and fixtures which have become old and worn out.
During his visit to Sanguem, Khaunte was also accompanied by Deputy Collector Prashant Shirodkar, Sanguem Mamlatdar Laxmikant Desai, Joint Mamlatdar and Rajesh Sakhalkar.
