PANJIM: As precautionary measure against spread of Covid-19 during the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, the Goa State Election Commission (SEC) has directed to sanitize and disinfect the polling booths on the day of voting. The polling will take place across 1237 booths on March 22.
In a series of instructions issued to Returning Officers, SEC secretary Melvyn Vaz has said that on counting day, March 23, those involved in counting process, are advised to wash their hands after every round.

The ROs are directed to ensure that all polling stations are sanitised and mopping of the polling booths is done with disinfectants like Phenl, Lyzol, Dettol, etc.
Adequate provisions for washing hands and sufficient water supply is provided at the booths.
“In case any person experiences discomfort with respect to health, then he or she may be referred to the medical team available at the disposal of ROs,” the instruction mentioned.
The polling teams are advised to wash their hands frequently at regular intervals.
SEC has asked director of health services to make awareness among the general public for confidence building.
Total 8,29,876 voters including 4,04,271 male and 4,25,605 female, will exercise their franchise on March 22.
The polling will take place through ballot papers.
