PONDA: The Sanjivani Sugar Factory workers have threatened to go on strike if their salary arrears and overtime charges are not paid soon.
The factory is run by the Government of Goa; its workers are affiliated to Mazdur Sangh.
According to Union leaders, the government agreed to pay salaries according to Maharashtra Wage Board, which came into force in 2014. However, though five years have passed since the wage board came into force, the employees have not been paid the benefits.
Further, the arrears according to Maharashtra Wage Board for the year 2009 to 2014 are also pending. Besides, the employees also have not been paid overtime charges for the 2018-2019 crushing season.
