Businessmen from Sankhali have panicked due to the temporary shifting of the bus stand about 1 km from the present location and have said this would affect their business.
Speaking to Herald many businessmen from Sankhali stated that their business would be affected if the bus stand is temporarily shifted near the Government College Sankhali. This arrangement has been done with the intention of constructing a new bus stand at Sankhali.
“It would have been good if the bus stand was to be constructed in a phased manner. Half of the bus stand should have been utilised for plying of buses and the other half the construction should have been carried out,” businessman association chairman, Satyawan Kanekar said.
Businessmen fear that if the bus stand is shifted to a new place there would be slack in their business. “Although it is a temporary arrangement business activities would be shifted to a new place which is almost a kilometer from the main market,” Kanekar complained. “If this is done we would suffer losses as no one would come to the market.”
“The construction of the bus stand would take at least two years and it is a long time for us and there should be something done in this regard,” Kanekar said.
“Taking the bus stand near Government College is a wrong move as it is already an accident prone zone and would further lead to accidents in the area,” a resident from Sankhali said.
To avoid further damage it is learnt that the authorities have now suggested that passengers be dropped near the market and buses then go to the new bus stand.
